The Hub at the International Delta Summit, Kolkata

The International Delta Summit took place on 16-17 June in Kolkata. Hosted by the South Asian Institute for Advanced Research and Development (SAIARD), an academic and research think tank, the summit is an open stage for discussions around delta sustainability and development.

Living Deltas colleagues engaged in discussions around the emerging issues related to the deltas, and contributed to the strategic vison for delta rejuventation.

The Hub’s own Professor Tuhin Ghosh (Director, School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University) delivered a special lecture on the Story of the Sundarban and chaired a panel on ‘Delta Cities Resilience and Sustainability’. Professor Manas Sanyal, (Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, India) was also a panellist.

Professor Souvanic Roy, (Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, India) was a key speaker in the ‘Impact of Climate Change on Deltaic Ecosystems’ panel.

Ms Sumana Banerjee (Research Scholar, School of Oceanographic Studies, Jadavpur University, Kolkata) chaired a panel on ‘Participation of Youth for Sustainable Delta Management’. Mr Subha Chakraborty also presented as part of this panel.

Mr. Saleemul Huq, Director, ICCCAD, and member of the Living Delta Hub’s Advisory Board gave a special address on ‘Understanding the real-world implications of climate change in the Delta region and Exploring mechanisms and structuring of climate finance for the Delta.’

The Hub also presented a report to Mr Prabhat Mishra, Principal Secretary, Department of Irrigation & Waterways, Government of West Bengal.
