Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development 2023 Success!

The Living Deltas Research Hub, along with 19 institutions including, GCRF and UKRI partnered the Asian Institute of Technology’s (AIT) 3rd International Symposium on Disaster Resilience and Sustainable Development (DRSD 2023) at the AIT Conference Center on 7th and 8th December 2023.

Featuring more than 150 presentations and 220 participants from over 25 countries, the symposium witnessed a comprehensive discourse on the emerging issues of disaster and climate resilience, and sustainable development among researchers, academicians and practitioners from 85 institutions. Dr. Indrajit Pal, Associate Professor of AIT and Co-PI for Living Deltas Hub headed the symposium as Chair of the Organizing Committee.

The two-day symposium consisted of dedicated keynotes, panel discussion and thematic sessions on delta and coastal resilience. Prof. Andy Large, Hub Director delivered a keynote speech on "Living Deltas Hub: a global collaboration on understanding delta resilience to climate change" sharing the key outcomes of the Hub with highlights of risks and resilience in delta communities in the face of disasters, climate change and anthropogenic stressors.

The symposium also featured a panel discussion titled “Disaster and Climate Resilience in Delta and Coastal Systems: Trade-offs and Challenges” where experts shared local and global perspectives of resilience in delta communities, challenges and opportunities in building community resilience. In addition, 25 oral presentations and 7 poster presentations were presented by researchers from various institutions under the thematic area “Disaster and Climate Resilience in Coastal, Marine and Deltaic Systems”.

Researchers from LDH member institutions; Asian Institute of Technology, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, An Giang University, Vietnam National University, Jadavpur University, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology and International Centre for Diarrheal Disease Research participated in-person during the symposium.
