BOOKLET: Intergenerational experiences of environmental change in Cho Moi district, Mekong Delta (Vietnamese and English)
Listening to women and men talk about environmental change in Nhon My commune, Cho Moi district, An Giang province
Lắng nghe người dân địa phương nói về sự thay đổi môi trường ở xã Nhơn Mỹ huyện, Chợ Mới, tỉnh An Giang
Hub members Siobhan Warrington and Lan Nguyen worked with a translator and designer to produce a booklet to return the Hub’s intergenerational research to the research participants, wider community, and local authorities who engaged in the research. The booklet was also accompanied by an exhibition (see below). Hard copies of these resources were produced in Vietnamese and physically returned to the community. English and Vietnamese PDF versions of both resources have been made available online.
Between May and June 2021 a small group of staff and student researchers from An Giang University, with the support of two community researchers spent several days in Nhon My commune listening to older and younger women and men to understand their experiences and perceptions of environmental change. The research team used oral history methods, alongside participatory mapping and participatory photography to engage with a total of 48 community members from aged 19-87.
In addition to several academic outputs (book chapter; journal article) it was important to us to return the research to the community members who shared their knowledge and experience. The booklet and exhibition serve to highlight the key values and concerns of community members in relation to their natural and built environment and should support more responsive and appropriate programming and research in the future.
