Behaviour and Risk.

Characterization and risk assessment of
deltaic systems.

We’ve developed an integrated risk assessment framework for delta socio-ecological systems. It addresses knowledge gaps in social equity analysis at the delta level, and helps to gather the data required for effective delta monitoring.

Household survey
& agri-food systems.

Our research teams collect, process and analyse data from communities living in delta regions to help us understand and assess the socio-ecological risks climate change poses. We also work with these communities to co-produce and implement organic agriculture systems to help develop sustainable, safe food sources, particularly in the Mekong region of south-east Asia.

Young entrepreneurship.

Young entrepreneurs can play a key role in diversifying delta livelihoods. Our research analyses livelihood categories as well as examining trajectories of shift. We identify opportunities and barriers to young entrepreneurs in each delta-specific context. We do this to generate a deeper understanding of the patterns and drivers of diversification, and how this can feed into sustainable development goals and policy decisions.

Delta---Vulnerability.png

Vulnerability & resilience.

We use scenario-based analysis to conceptualize and quantify the vulnerability and resilience of our three target delta regions. We’re developing an indicator-based framework for assessing the impact of multiple hazards on each delta region’s socio-economics, bio-physical and cultural-natural heritage. To do this we use the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) definitions of vulnerability and resilience.

Delta---Modelling-2.png

Modelling.

Through the development and application of models we aim to improve our understanding of the processes and interactions occurring in delta environments, and how these contribute to societal and environmental change. To do this we use a Coupled Human and Natural Systems (CHANS) framework, incorporating natural/cultural heritage into our modelling tools and outputs.
